Gambling Takes a Head. NBA Bans a player betting against his own Team.
Jontay Porter no longer has a career in basketball.
ESPN’s Andrian Wojnarowski - their lead NBA Insider broke the story.
The Commissioner of The Association, Adam Silver; in a press release yesterday stated that after an investigation that is still on going and will likely have other people involved - it had banned the Toronto Raptors player.
The Investigation discovered the following:
Mr Porter bet on two Raptors Games, which are parlays - a parlay is when the mark bets on a particular situation in taking place. The bookies noticed highly irregular betting on the over and the under of that parlay.
Mr Porter had revealed information to a bookie, ahead of a game between the Raptors and the Kings. Another bookie that had close dealings with the former mentioned, placed a $80,000 bet that would have netted 1.2 MILLION. DraftKings, a gambling sponsor of the Association did not pay out the bet.
At least thirteen bets on NBA games were made by Mr Porter. Using an associate’s online betting account, the bets ranged from $15 to $22,000. These best were all losing bets.
The bookies also reported spikes in betting on the under on many of Mr Porter’s games.
The bookies notified the Association, and US Integrity, which is the bookies lobbing agency also did the same.
The Toronto Raptors organization is in full support of the ban.
Folks, this has not been the first time the Gambling issue has reared its head on the sports world.
There was a one year ban on a NFL player due to Gambling.
Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter has admitted to massive gambling issues.
The Temple Owls Men’s Basketball Team has been called out on two occasions on gambling irregularities.
And now, a life time ban for Mr Porter.
I have stated this again but i think its needs repeating:
This Substack and all of Retrocade Sports will NEVER, EVER SUPPORT OR INFER TO SUPPORT GAMBLING AND ALL AND ANY OF ITS ASPECTS.
Its has become apparent that things must change in the sport in order for this to end but it is too little and maybe too late…
